This weeks walk is at: Ockham Common, Also known locally as Wisley Lake/Bolder Mere. Meet at 10.30 for 11am start! Directions are: Neareast Postcode is KT11 1ND From the A3 follow signs to Effingham. From Junction 10 of the M25 turn off to Guildford and follow signs to Effingham. The car park is the first on the left - Please drive slowly or you will miss it!! From the Effingham Junction follow Old Lane right through to the car parks. The car park from Effingham is the 3rd on the right just before you join the A3 go slow or you will miss it! Don't forget the hot and cold food and drinks that can be bought at the cafe, so you don't have to miss your breakfast! There are also toilets for those that need them. ![]() Dogs MUST be kept either in cars or walked AWAY from the car park until the start of the walk. (The only exeption to this, is when the weather is really hot, then you must stay with your dog, to insure it's well being) It's a fairly busy place and it doesn't help our cause to have the dogs barking and bouncing about on the leads. It is up to us to make sure that our dogs are not seen in a bad light and to have a large amount of dogs in the car park barking at people and their dogs as they go past is not acceptable & it's not fair on the rest of us who spend a great deal of time and effort trying to improve how the public looks at dogs like ours. And don't forget a loud shout of Horses, Dog Walkers or Cyclists will alert the rest of the group, as to what is ahead, and take the appropriate action All dogs and owners welcome as usual, but we would ask that all owners please be responsible for your own dog. BIGGSD will not tolerate, be held accountable or responsible for any accident, fight or unwarranted behavior towards a member of the group or member of the public. We welcome new members and dogs and positively urge them to come on the walks for their and their dogs benefit but we do expect owners to keep their dogs in check. We all come on the walks to socialize the dogs & have a natter with like minded people and have a good walk, but if you think your dog maybe aggressive to other dogs or you don't know how your dog will react to other dogs we do ask that you muzzle it for your dogs and others safety. If your dog is unpredictable we ask that you either keep it on a lead or a long line. Please be courteous and respect others by keeping an eye on your dog and being aware of what it's doing, we do not want to stop people or dogs coming on the walk but we will be left with no choice if a dog is a constant problem. If a members dog is being too problematic (for one reason or another), you will be approached by one of the walkers, who will politely request that you either put your dog back on a leash &/or muzzle for a period of time. This is not intended to offend anyone, it is a request to restrain your dog from getting too carried away, making a nuisance of itself &/or it being too aggressive. If you are unsure how your dog will react on the walk, then the dog must be kept either on a lead or a long line. If the owner is not in close proximity (for one reason or another) another walker may place your dog on a lead until it is reunited with its owner & the reason why will be explained. Please make sure your dog is wearing a suitable dog tag before the walk, by law this MUST have the owners address and telephone numbers on and preferably that the dog is chipped and neutered. If the walk has to be cancelled for some reason it will be posted on here at least 2 hours before the walk. It won't be cancelled if it is just raining! So please check here before you set off |

The weekly walks countdown to Xmas..... The schedule for the weekly walks leading up until Xmas will be Sunday 17th December 2017 - Epsom Downs Sunday 24th December 2017 - Chertsey Meads (Xmas Eve) Sunday 26th December 2017 - Ockham Common (Boxing Day) The aim is to have refreshments at Chertsey on Xmas eve, including tea and Xmas cakes etc. Depending on Paul's availability there may be more!!! As the café will be open on Boxing day this year we will not be catering for refreshments, however we will be holding the traditional boxing day raffle with some spectacular prizes. I will post the pictures of the prizes in due course, there is a huge brand new cuddly dog (nicknamed Scooby for now) as first prize and hampers full of goodies with the odd bottle of alcohol thrown in!!! All donations gratefully received and remember all proceeds go to the dogs. |

I would like to say it was a lovely walk this morning!! It was freezing and wet, very wet!! Still the 15 dogs I counted didn't care. I wonder how many of their accompanying peeps felt the same Once again we liberated one of vigil's rescues for a few hours. Today it was Duke's turn for his first trip. As with so many before, he seemed to enjoy the experience It was no surprise not many hung around for a chat at the end. Even I couldn't wait to get warm and dry Let's hope the weather is better next week at Epsom. See you there Mick |
