This weeks walk is at: Chertsey Meads. It does seems to have it's own weather system here so please come prepared for 'anything!' Meet at 10.30am for an 11.00am start Directions are: Nearest postcode is KT16 8LS Its not the 1st car park, which is for the marina, but the 2nd car park further on over the common and bear left when you see the 2 dead end signs Dogs MUST be kept either in cars or walked AWAY from the car park until the start of the walk. (The only exeption to this, is when the weather is really hot, then you must stay with your dog, to insure it's well being) This place also has a smallish car park, and it can get fairly busy at times. And it doesn't help our cause to have the dogs barking and bouncing about on the leads. It is up to us to make sure that our dogs are not seen in a bad light and to have a large amount of dogs in the car park barking at people and their dogs as they go past is not acceptable & it's not fair on the rest of us who spend a great deal of time and effort trying to improve how the public looks at dogs like ours. Please be aware that other dog walkers or even the odd horse are often seen at the Meads. We do ask if owners can put dogs on lead or make them sit to the side when horses or people walking with or without dogs are on the same path to let them pass. Please keep this up, we have been congratulated on previous walks for stopping and allowing members of the public to pass with their dogs or horses etc so it is important we carry on doing this not just because it's polite and something that should be done but because we 'are' responsible GSD (& others) owners! And don't forget a loud shout of Horses, Dog Walkers or Cyclists will alert the rest of the group, as to what is ahead, and take the appropriate action All dogs and owners welcome as usual, but we would ask that all owners please be responsible for your own dog. BIGGSD will not tolerate, be held accountable or responsible for any accident, fight or unwarranted behavior towards a member of the group or member of the public. We welcome new members and dogs and positively urge them to come on the walks for their and their dogs benefit but we do expect owners to keep their dogs in check. We all come on the walks to socialize the dogs & have a natter with like minded people and have a good walk, but if you think your dog maybe aggressive to other dogs or you don't know how your dog will react to other dogs we do ask that you muzzle it for your dogs and others safety. If your dog is unpredictable we ask that you either keep it on a lead or a long line. Please be courteous and respect others by keeping an eye on your dog and being aware of what it's doing, we do not want to stop people or dogs coming on the walk but we will be left with no choice if a dog is a constant problem. If a members dog is being too problematic (for one reason or another), you will be approached by a walk member who will politely request that you either put your dog back on a leash &/or muzzle for a period of time. This is not intended to offend anyone, it is a request to restrain your dog from getting too carried away, making a nuisance of itself &/or it being too aggressive. If you are unsure how your dog will react on the walk, then the dog must be kept either on a lead or a long line. If the owner is not in close proximity (for one reason or another) another walk member may place your dog on a lead until it is reunited with its owner & the reason why will be explained. Please make sure your dog is wearing a suitable dog tag before the walk, by law this MUST have the owners address and telephone numbers on and preferably that the dog is chipped and neutered. If the walk has to be cancelled for some reason it will be posted on here at least 2 hours before the walk. It won't be cancelled if it is just raining! So please check here before you set off |

A fantastic walk across the Meads this morning. I managed to count 22 dogs on todays walk, including Tank a vigil dog who we liberated from kennels for a few hours. It was his first time joining us and as with so many before him seemed to enjoy every minute. Two of the high lights of the walk, Barry and Goldie let off lead for the first time Both of them are a bit unsure of other dogs. So seeing them free and behaving makes the walks so worth while I'm sorry Angela, I couldn't help but laugh watching Ghost have a wallow in the mud pool.It makes a change from it being just my Charlie. As for the bacon butties and coffees at the end, I don't think I've seen so many peeps stay so long for a chat. My 3 were very upset that they dipped out on the dog treats Sorry Janet I couldn't resist it See you all next week. Mick |
