Weekly walk this week is at: Elstead nr Guildford. A firm favorite for lots of us! It has open spaces of common land, forest walks and mossy streams for the dogs to paddle in. It's also quite hilly so may not be good for those with walking or breathing probs. Meet at 10.30 for an 11.00am start. Directions are Nearest post code is GU8 6LW (for approx guidance only) If you are coming from Elstead Village go past the usual car park which would be on your left, and at the left hand bend is a lane/road on the right shooting off from the 'S' bend. If you are coming from Farnham/Frensham side, the bend is before the usual car park & the road/lane is on the left down the lane to the Thursley car park. We are moving to the car park which we cross on our walk by the stream and not the one at the far end of the lane on the L/H side just as you see a closed barrier blocking the track. Go past October farm and take the 1st left and the car park is on the left. Dogs MUST be kept either in cars or walked AWAY from the car park until the start of the walk. (The only exeption to this, is when the weather is really hot, then you must stay with your dog, to insure it's well being) This is one of the smallest car parks on our walks, and it's a fairly busy place and it doesn't help our cause to have the dogs barking and bouncing about on the leads. It is up to us to make sure that our dogs are not seen in a bad light and to have a large amount of dogs in the car park barking at people and their dogs as they go past is not acceptable & it's not fair on the rest of us who spend a great deal of time and effort trying to improve how the public looks at dogs like ours. Please be aware there maybe horses in the car park or seen on the walk. We do ask if owners can put dogs on lead or make them sit to the side when horses or people walking with or without dogs are on the same path to let them pass. Please keep this up, we have been congratulated on previous walks for stopping and allowing members of the public to pass with their dogs or horses etc so it is important we carry on doing this not just because it's polite and something that should be done but because we 'are' responsible GSD (& others) owners! And don't forget a loud shout of Horses, Dog Walkers or Cyclists will alert the rest of the group, as to what is ahead, and take the appropriate action All dogs and owners welcome as usual, but we would ask that all owners please be responsible for your own dog. BIGGSD will not tolerate, be held accountable or responsible for any accident, fight or unwarranted behaviour towards a member of the group or member of the public. We welcome new members and dogs and positively urge them to come on the walks for their and their dogs benefit but we do expect owners to keep their dogs in check. We all come on the walks to socialize the dogs & have a natter with like minded people and have a good walk, but if you think your dog maybe aggressive to other dogs or you don't know how your dog will react to other dogs we do ask that you muzzle it for your dogs and others safety. If your dog is unpredictable we ask that you either keep it on a lead or a long line. Please be courteous and respect others by keeping an eye on your dog and being aware of what it's doing, we do not want to stop people or dogs coming on the walk but we will be left with no choice if a dog is a constant problem. If a members dog is being too problematic (for one reason or another), you will be approached by a walk member who will politely request that you either put your dog back on a leash &/or muzzle for a period of time. This is not intended to offend anyone, it is a request to restrain your dog from getting too carried away, making a nuisance of itself &/or it being too aggressive. If you are unsure how your dog will react on the walk, then the dog must be kept either on a lead or a long line. If the owner is not in close proximity (for one reason or another) another walk member may place your dog on a lead until it is reunited with its owner & the reason why will be explained. Please make sure your dog is wearing a suitable dog tag before the walk, by law this MUST have the owners address and telephone numbers on and preferably that the dog is chipped and neutered. If the walk has to be cancelled for some reason it will be posted on here at least 2 hours before the walk. It won't be cancelled if it is just raining! . So please check here before you set off |

Tyler and Pete send their apologies for this week's walk at Elstead, their favourite. They have to attend a Golden Wedding Anniversary Party but they both know where they'd prefer to be. Have a quiet one without my boy. Hope the weather is kind to all of us. |

Not the biggest group today. A total of 14 dogs, but they were all well behaved. Even Charlie Once again young Maddie had a Sunday outing from kennels. She couldn't get into my car fast enough The way she behaves she is likely to become a firm regular on the walks. Well at least until she finds a home. We all made a group decision at the end of todays walk. I'm sorry to have to tell you Paul!!! Your not allowed to have any more holidays. The refreshments at the end were very sadly missed I will see you all next week. Mick |
