:rage:

Photobucket is an American image hosting and video hosting website, web services suite, and online community dedicated to preserving and sharing the entire photo and video lifecycle.

Sadly without notice it has disabled my and many users accounts.

I have thousands of photos promoting dogs / on my blog which have now just disappeared .

It seems they now what a fee for 3rd party hosting of $399 !!!

It will take some time to add photos of dogs looking for a home through another source , thanks photobucket

Slightly annoyed is an understatement

yep.....furious too!

Received an email this morning from photobucket re 3rd Party Hosting and wondered what it was all about - until I logged on to the Forum and all photos uploaded via Photobucket have been wiped over.....until they receive payment............... :machine gun:

Don't know if our new man Jacob can offer any advice, or have to find another free photo hosting site................

Totally frustrating and more so because Photobucket gave no prior warning at all!

Pam has found this free hosting site and it seems to work ok :thumbs up:

Just tried it on a photo which photobucket kindly wiped over... and replaced it with no problem.

So bog off photobucket - I ain't paying you $399 per annum - and hello tinypic.com

Alternatively I found the following website which isn't as user friendly as photobucket but basically does the same job and it is at the following: http://picorator.com

I recently used this website to upload the pictures of Zara and they seem ok :yay:

Coming to this a bit late - this is what I've just posted to Chewie's 'Proud Moments' thread:

=====

FYI - Photobucket have changed the way their site works ( :voodoo: boo, hiss, :voodoo: ). You can't direct-link to pictures without paying a monthly fee :dramaqueen: . Looks like it's retrospective - so all our previous PB links are gone??

http://photobucket.com/p500/ says:

Are my pictures still safe?

Yes! All your photos are still available by logging into your Photobucket Account. Photobucket has only restricted the ability to view your photos on 3rd party sites.

Can I download my Photos?
Absolutely, at any time. It is an easy four step process:

Step 1. Login to your Photobucket Account

Step 2. Navigate to your library page

Step 3. View a photo and click the download button

Step 4. The picture will be saved to your computer

... and tells you the new pricing structure :cryingtissues:

So the only way to post your PB pix is to download them and post as attachments?? :voodoo:

Since we're a 'free' board, I don't know how much space we get for attachments??

More info as I find it :minigsd paw:

It's not hard to work out why Photobucket would introduce such a radical change. The company was huge in the early 2000s, tripling its annual revenue between 2006 and 2007. It was one of the early players in online photo hosting, but the emergence of cloud storage platforms and social networks have almost certainly put a major dent in its business.

There's no solid evidence to prove this, of course; the company's publically available financial reports only date up to 2007, following its acquisition by Fox, but this is right around the time when services like Dropbox and Facebook started to set off a tectonic shift in the way we share, store and catalogue pictures. As these companies, and others like them, grew to dominate the distribution of online images, it's not hard to imagine Photobucket's userbase and revenues taking a very serious beating.

from ITPro

PB was taken over by Rupert Murdoch's evil empire, then seems to have been dumped as revenues dropped?? Wikipedia

... problem is, it's part of the Lingua Franca of the interweb, so it's left holes all over the place :cryingtissues: Vigil's blog is one example, but forums/avatars/... will all get het badly :dramaqueen:

Picorator seems ok to post 'transient' images - but they're not everlasting :exclamation:

How long will you keep my images?

As long as your images get at least 1 view per month we will keep them.
