"...it's a dog's life!"
|
The first 10mins of this Inside Out - South West on BBC iPlayer is worth seeing if you haven't heard about it, Stella, kept in cage for 2 years with no exercise… Inside Out - South West This is really aimed at those of us who take on a dog from a rescue rather than anyone from a rescue. After watching this, it provoked in me a few random thoughts about passed conversations I've had with like minded dog owners... I felt it good to share the link and these thoughts for discussion... It is us the owners who hold responsibility in ensuring our dogs are good ambassadors for the breed. It's the dog which ultimately suffers when owners and/or the authorities let them down and when we let them down boy, do they suffer. Do you remember the bad name/prejudice German Shepherds/Alsatians had in the '70s? Let's hope that the bad name/prejudice of some breeds today can be changed sooner rather than later. So many more people than ever before have a dog (or two) and it seems to me ANYONE can get one and indeed do when it is so obvious that it would not be suitable for them to have one. Yet the law is so slow to catch up or fails to be compassionate when mistakes take place. As the Policeman said in the clip, "…we are bound by the law…is it the ideal?…absolutely not!…all we can do is manage a very poor situation!!.." Remember, in the eyes of the law our pet dogs are objects, not family members. Look at the hard work all the rescues do, they take in a dog, they assess a dog, they begin good corrective training/rehabilitation of the dog, they find a home for the dog, but it does not end there. It continues with us who take a dog on from a rescue. We need to keep up the good work they begun…remember … A well trained dog is a happy dog. I just wonder what your thoughts are when you hear of dogs treated like this by the law? |

Yes, this is awful. Just to say Heambro raised this issue on 29th Feb in the Doggy Chat section titled, "How Cruel". x.x Edited by Nightrunner, 3 Mar 2016, 07:02 PM.
