Firstly, I would like to thank all who attended the BIGGSD Walks, and to introduce myself.

My name is Peter (Nighthawk on the Board)

I've been told that I am quite a large and loud chap (to many years playing rugby)

I have a 6 year old rescue GSD called Kane. Most of you know me as Cakey Boss

I have been trying to look after the BIGGSD walks since November last year. And I have to say, since taking over, some of the BIGGSD etiquette has been slightly lacking of late.

If you look at the Walk threads that I post up each week, you will see some very important rules that we ask all walkers to observe, digest and put into practice.
Yes it is a bit long, but it is a very important part of our walks

Several of these are not happening, and we are getting complaints from, not only other walkers, but from our own group.

We have had a few complaints from our group, of some of the dogs being a bit problematic and being a nuisance to other dogs.

What I say next is not intended to offend anyone, but it is a request to restrain your dog from getting too carried away, making a nuisance of itself or being too aggressive.

The supervision of your dog is your responsibility & that you have a duty of care to ensure that your dog/s are not causing a problem for others.
If a members dog is being too problematic (for one reason or another), you will be approached by a member of the Biggsd Team who will politely request that you either put your dog back on a leash &/or muzzle for a period of time.

On the walk to Ockham on Sunday 23rd June, I was a bit late and on getting into the car park at about 10:45, 15 mins before the walk, there was at least 6-8 dogs out of the cars, albeit on leads, but barking away, while the owners where just standing and talking to each other.

This is NOT acceptable, and must STOP!

We are currently in contact with the warden for Ockham, over an alleged (in her words Concern) about our walks. She has said she is looking at the group, and might have to put restrictions on us walking on the common. With this in mind, I would ask all of the walkers to take a minute to look at what is posted up on the threads, and please put it into practice.

We currently have a good relationship with a lot of the other walkers and horse riders on all of our walks, and we would not like this to be jeopardized. These walks are designed for the enjoyment and socializing of walkers and of course, the dogs as well.

The last thing we want is to get heavy handed, but if members continue and allow their dogs to interfere or disrupt the walks in the future they will be asked to leave the walk.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message. I know the majority of you are responsible dog owners & this will appear quite obvious if not common sense. Unfortunately, it is the minority few we are talking about that are letting the 'side' down, and I am sure you would not like to have the walks cancelled, due to the odd few.

If you have any questions to the above, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the team via PM or come & talk to us during the Surrey walks.

Happy walking!

Thank you.
