Hi Guys , am posting this after speaking to carmen (thorex) and she adviced to put a post on to maybe get as much advice as possible , well Delta is now 6.5mth (we got her at 16wk) , since we had her (came from the person that owned mum and dad) she has always been very barky and lunging on the lead her fur goes up when she spots another dog (she lives with floyd who she never had a problem with except for the first 48hrs we initially thought it was her just laying the ground rules down but it now becoming a big problem she is never aggressive with him , now my problem is we dont live in the best area (lots and lots off numpty owners with staffies and pit type cross dogs) and when she sees dogs she is acting up with the barking and lunging yet when she gets to the dog (she always on lead around other dogs) she is not aggressive to them she may bark but it not the same bark she was doing only moments before , we did seek advice at local training school and she had a 1-2-1 session with her , she diagnosed fear aggression , she told me how to treat it (get her to sit at a comfortable distance and reward her all the time she is not reacting )which i did and it worked some off the time for all off three days , so after still trying and getting nowhere we contacted her breeder for help as he is also a dog trainer (should off gone there in the first place) and explained the situation to him that very weekend he came over and took her out on the field with us , he showed us what to do and it was more or less the same technique we already been shown he did not believe she was suffering with fear aggression and he believes that because mum is linked to alot off police dogs in her pedigree that our delta has found herself a job to do (she is more reactive around floyd who she totally adores if dogs get rough with him she will step in ) , his technique is working alot better but she could be better he came about three week ago sometimes feels like we taking steps back instead off forward is this normal , would really like some advice if you have experienced this or know how to help cure this , feel free to ask any questions re her behaviour towards other dogs if it helps to come up with some advice , will be back on later thanks in advance for help oh nearly forgot when she eventually meets the dog she been acting up with and it tries to play with her she will run behind me or jump up at me as if looking for support , we always give her lots of praise and rewards when she sat there behaving around other dogs (not been reactive) and some dogs we can walk past and she wont react around them but others she will , and if she meets another one off herself that barks on lead she always reacts back hope there is enough info here for advice if not please ask away just want her to be happy and get to play with some off the nice dogs on our park (there is a few not many but some i would trust with her) |

You have pretty much described my female. We got her when she was 4 months old and has barked at other dogs since the day we got her. She is now two and does bark quite aggressively at other dogs and lunges but if allowed up to the other dog the barking stops but if the other dog reacts she will react back. We went to puppy classes and I did get a trainer in to try and deal with the problem, which he did, he got her to not react but no chance when i tried! She used to bark at dogs that were quite a distance away (on the other side of the road) but we have now managed to get the gap closer, so she only now reacts if they are on the same side of the road and have to pass them. I can't offer you much help as mine still does it, so i would be interested in any advice that you do get! Good luck! |

Hi , thanks for your post , Delta will also go mad at dogs over the road , she has improved and some days it like we have solved the problem and then it will happen again , just want to be able to allow her off lead to mingle with dogs and make friends , very frustrating but hopefully will get to the bottom off it and she will be fine |

Hi thank you for advice , when i mentioned the three days that was all her soloution lasted and that was with our instructor at local dog training school and it was what she showed us that only worked for three days but that probably to do with the fact what she said our girl was suffering from was wrong , we have actually been seeking advice on her since end of Jan with this trainer but two and a half week ago we went to her breeder who is also dog behaviourists , have had a two hr conversation with him today and he is coming back out to see us hopefully this weekend he said he will come as many times as it takes to help her get over her problem , our local training school has said they will accept her on socialisation classes and the basic training , am sure with her breeders help and the socialisation classes it will help her dramatically we will most definately keep perservering with her like you have said, would never give up on her she is our world we do lack training schools in our area and the fact we dont drive makes it harder to get to others out off the area but will use the one in our town just to get our girl the socialisation we need her to have , have also asked one guy on our park who owns two dogs (his are well behaved and delta is okay with them ) if we can meet , still to bump into a few other people and ask them same , we unfortunately have more untrustworthy dogs than we have good dogs but there are the regulars who are okay . Thank you again for your advice it has helped as i was beginning to think for some reason i was initially getting it right and then must off not been doing it right , it good to know that it is normal to have good weeks and have bad weeks will update post once something to report and hopefully it will all be good that i do report thanks again Edited by lisa14061975, 14 Mar 2013, 09:00 PM.
