From Christine we went looking for a trap with which to catch Lady, we discovered that the only traps available are designed for foxes and badgers, they are just too small for a German Shepherd Dog . So Steve has converted a dog crate into a GSD-size trap (32” h x 38”l x 38”w). We were worried about possible injury to a dog because of the speed and weight of the metal door coming down when the dog springs the trap. Steve has addressed this in 3 ways:Firstly by designing the trap so that the dog has to go in and bend their body around a metal barrier to get at the food. When the dog bends round the barrier their back legs and tail follow them into the trap – out of the way of the door. Secondly Steve put in a pulley and weight system (like sash window) which slows the fall of the door to a much less harmful speed. Finally, both surfaces where the trap door closes into the crate have been padded. We tested it on our big GSDs and it worked a treat . See what you think: ![]() The trap is available for anyone to use to catch a German Shepherd or other breed of dog who is lost or stray – just call John on 01932 571268 As it is the only big trap we have please do take extra care to keep it safe and return it for others to use |
